In teaching, I feel extremely helpful, useful, and fulfilled!”
Rose’s Story
Teaching Discipline
Mathematics
Why Mathematics
“In my tutoring experiences, I noticed that fear and confusion around math were preventing students from accessing both mathematical knowledge and knowledge in related scientific disciplines. Math is a language for systematically and efficiently describing quantities and patterns in the world. Knowing that language makes your life richer and more interesting, in addition to being a practical asset in many careers. Anyone can do and learn math.”
Professional Experience
Between her undergraduate and graduate studies, Rose worked at the Yale School of Nursing, doing data analysis for a study that measured the impact of a home visiting program on socioeconomically disadvantaged parents. Rose began teaching at a young age as a science and foreign languages tutor. Before her current position, she taught geometry and an advanced algebra with trigonometry precalculus combination course as a long-term substitute teacher.
Since the 2022-2023 school year, Rose has taught Honors Advanced Algebra with Trigonometry and AP Precalculus at Northside College Prep in Chicago, Illinois.
Hobbies
Rose enjoys circus activities, such as juggling. These activities are an extension of her previous job as a circus coach and executive assistant at Circus Harmony—a “social circus” nonprofit that uses circus arts to effect social change. Additionally, she is an active member of her union and works with fellow union members on social justice and local electoral campaigns.
