Justin’s Story

Teaching Discipline

Mathematics

Why Mathematics

“I love math for its beauty and fun! Of course, math has endless ‘useful’ applications in engineering and the sciences, but to me, that feels like a convenient side effect. I find math to be the most enjoyable when we just get to play around with it—by solving logic puzzles and brain teasers, finding random patterns in our daily lives, or debating mathematical paradoxes and philosophy.”

Professional Experience

During his undergraduate studies, Justin worked as a mathematics tutor at the MIT Math Learning Center, and as a lecturer and a teaching assistant for a web development course. He also taught a one-week coding course at the Korea International School and worked as an academic instructor during the summer at Yang Academy. Additionally, Justin worked as a software development engineer intern at Amazon.

Justin will begin his first year of teaching mathematics at San Francisco International High School in San Francisco, California, during the 2023–2024 school year.

Hobbies

Justin enjoys all things related to music and performance. He grew up playing the violin and sang in East Asian a cappella groups throughout his undergraduate and graduate studies. He enjoys arranging, composing, and participating in conversations about string instruments, music theory, a cappella, classical music and musical theater.
