Why Mathematics

“Many people have a very negative and at times a fearful relationship with math. However, math can also have a lot of joy and beauty in it. I hope to show students the playful and creative side of math, so that they can learn that there is room for growth, and more to math than just right or wrong answers. My goal is to tap into the natural love of solving puzzles that almost everyone has.”

Professional Experience

Emily coached and directed an SAT prep program for underserved students in Portland, Maine for a year in college. Also she worked as a calculus tutor at Bowdoin College for a year.

Emily spent two summers working as a teaching intern at Northfield Mount Hermon Summer Session, where she taught algebra and precalculus. During summer 2016, she worked as a geometry teaching intern at the Cambridge-Harvard Summer Academy.

Volunteer Experience

After college, Emily served for a year as an AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA) member at the University of Southern Maine, where she coordinated partnerships between STEM faculty, university students, and local K–12 schools.
