Kilsi Naanee

I’ve always had a passion for science, and when I decided to pursue teaching, I knew that sharing the excitement and engagement of science with students was my calling. I want every student to have the same enriching experience that I’ve had with this fascinating subject.

Kilsi’s Story

Teaching Discipline

Biology

Why Biology

Studying biology has always intrigued me and consistently made the most sense in my life. As I delved deeper into the sciences, my appreciation for chemistry grew, but biology remained my foundational science—the one that always resonated most naturally with me.

Professional Experience

Before teaching, Kilsi worked at CODA Inc., an opioid treatment facility, in their research department for one year. He was involved with conducting drug research and actively participating in clinical trials for multiple studies, as a research assistant.

While in school, Kilsi also held an emergency teaching license at Franklin High School, where he taught biology in the 2021-2022 school year. In the 2022-2023 school year, he served as a substitute teacher for Portland Public Schools. While completing his Master’s in Education, Kilsi returned to Franklin High School and taught biology and forensic science.

Kilsi will teach Biology and Forensic Science at Franklin High School in Portland, Oregon, in the 2024-2025 school year.

Hobbies

When Kilsi is not busy spending time with his daughters, he coaches football, wrestling, and track and field. He is also passionate about cooking and embarking on adventures with his dog, Kane.
